Obertraun, a neighboring village of the world-famous Hallstatt, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage region and is framed by the peaks of the Dachstein massif and Lake Hallstatt.

In winter, the Krippenstein offers Austria's longest downhill run, as well as numerous routes for ski touring enthusiasts and snowshoe hikers.

In summer, the limestone massif of the Krippenstein hides the popular excursion destination of the Dachstein Giant Ice Caves and the 5 Fingers viewing platform. On the other side of the valley, called "Sonnseitn" by the locals of Obertraun, lies the Sarstein, a popular hiking mountain that reveals the famous panorama of the Dachstein plateau after the ascent.

At the foot of the Sarstein is the Chalet am Sonnenhang. The traditional main house from 1804 once housed a typical regional farm for small livestock and was saved from imminent decay by the Kadlec family in 2016.

The family completely gutted the original main house down to its foundation walls and then lovingly restored it—so you will still find the original wooden stairs and ceilings in the house. The historic walls have been carefully equipped with modern amenities such as underfloor heating, flat screens, Wi-Fi, and new spacious bathrooms. The chalet offers three spacious holiday apartments, each one unique. Discoveries from a bygone era, found in the adjacent barn, add visual accents throughout the chalet and remind guests of the original roots of the Salzkammergut region.

The spacious grounds with lovingly landscaped green oases around the chalet invite you to linger. In the adjoining rustic barn, life has returned thanks to the Kadlec family. Gabi Kadlec and her daughter Lisa take loving care of their guests when they are not busy with their chickens, ducks, rabbits, and sheep.

The delicious taste of the eggs from Henriette, Gisel, and friends from the chicken coop is often the number one topic of conversation among guests. Sharing travel experiences around the campfire in the evening, marveling at the impressive natural landscape throughout the day—this makes the perfect escape from the city complete.

Whether it's sporting activities like paragliding or mountain biking, cultural excursions to Hallstatt, or culinary hotspots, the Kadlec family always has the most original insider tips ready.

The holiday apartment with an infrared sauna is located on the ground floor of Chalet am Sonnenhang, with a beautiful view of the lovingly maintained garden.

The apartment features a spacious kitchen with a dining area as well as a large bedroom that can accommodate two or three people. A large bathroom with an infrared sauna invites you to relax on cooler days.

In summer, it's wonderful to barbecue in our garden or simply lie in the sun and enjoy the time.
